Why I Teach
JourneyDance
I have loved to dance all my life, though I never felt comfortable with formal dance instruction I found dancing in clubs in my teens to be the perfect way to relieve the stresses and pain of adolescence. For me, dance has always been an emotional release and spiritual connection. That is why, when I discovered JourneyDance at Kripalu Center, I felt like I had come “home.” I had the most profound sense of self-love and acceptance I had ever felt I get totally out of my head, and into my body and heart, and loved myself in a new way. I knew instantly that I needed to lead this kind of work for others.
I got her first JourneyDance training in 2007 and have been guiding them ever since. In 2012, I completed module 2, deepening my connection to the transformational power of this work, then in 2014, I completed Module 3.
As a yoga teacher and certified JourneyDance Facilitator, I lead groups on transformational retreats including an annual week of classes at Omega Institute.I believes dance can be enjoyed by people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities, and my passion is empowering my students to embody their natural expression and create their practices through inner experience rather than outward aesthetics.
Bringing dance to people who believe they cannot dance is one of my greatest joys.
JourneyDance is a freeing experience created by Toni Bergins. I first met Toni and discovered JourneyDance when I was in my yoga residency at the Kripalu Center. I had tried many other dance styles, searching for the one that felt right for me to teach. With JourneyDance, I felt instantly that I’d come “home”. I was trained as a Certified JourneyDance Facilitator from 2007-2012 and since then, I have led several hundred dances and transformational group retreats over the years, including an annual week of classes at Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York.
